Daimler's Smart microcar division is getting ready to welcome a new, bigger family member three years from now.
According to German website Auto Motor und Sport, Mercedes-Benz has decided to pursue it's older plans of adding an SUV version to its Smart lineup, with the vehicle slated to arrive in 2016.
Mercedes got its first Smart-based sport utility vehicle idea almost eight years ago, but, for some reason, the Stuttgart automaker never went through with it. That's about to change now, and the small SUV seems to be in the works as a taller second-generation ForTwo with reportedly optional four-wheel drive.
Official information from Mercedes-Benz has yet to be released, but we might expect some hints after the new ForTwo Smart goes on sale next year.
