Color us disappointed. With us, for thinking with our hearts instead of our minds and with Mercedes-Benz, for killing off what in just three years has become a legend.

Indeed, ladies and gentlemen, the Stuttgart car maker confirmed once again that the SLS AMG GT Final Edition, launched simultaneously at the 2013 LA Auto Show and the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show will be the SLS AMG swan song.

At first, we refused to believe it, with the main proof contradicting all the reports being these SLS AMG Coupe and SLS AMG Roadster spyshots, which are obviously depicting a version of the SLS that is something like a missing link in the model's lineage.

With the first official photos of the SLS AMG GT Final Edition came a press release surrogate only a few sentences long that pushed us to write what we thought was a debunking editorial about the entire shenanigans.

Today, Mercedes-Benz offered us the whole press release accompanying the release of the special and final edition of the modern Gullwing, so the cat is pretty much out of the bag.

As we were reporting before, the SLS AMG GT Final Edition will be offered in both Coupe and Roadster guise in just 350 units.

Powered by the same evolution of the epic M159 engine that is found in the “regular” GT model, the Final Edition develops 591 hp (583 bhp) and 650 Nm (479 lb ft) of torque, enough to propel the Affalterbach land missile from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds.

The exterior of the car is made “special” by the addition of a new scooped hood that the press release doesn't make clear if its full carbon fiber or just features a carbon fiber-effect, a carbon fiber front splitter and a carbon fiber rear aerofoil.

To top what Mercedes-Benz calls a “racing look” but we call an average tuning job from almost any German tuner, the SLS AMG GT Final Series is sporting a set of forged wheels in a cross-spoke design and red-pointed brake calipers. Apparently, new Dunlop Sport Maxx Race Cup tires are available on request as a no-cost option.

The interior is engulfed in a Designo Exclusive diamond-patterned leather with contrasting stitching and Alcantara.

The SLS AMG GT Coupe Final Edition will start from EUR 225,505, while the SLS AMG GT Roadster Final Edition can be had from EUR 233,835, with the market launch to happen in March 2014. After all 350 units are sold you can give your final respects to the SLS AMG series altogether as it will be replaced by the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT (C190).
