News surrounding the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG demise have already started to die out after the 2013 LA Auto Show press days ended, but that doesn't mean we've forgotten about it.
It will be a very sad day in Affalterbach when the very last M159 engine gets signed off by the person who assembles it.
Still, as most of you know, the legendary M156/M159 engines aren't the only powerplants sported by the SLS AMG in its soon to be short career, as the most powerful and most expensive SLS AMG ever built isn't even using gasoline to run, but electric current.
Manufactured in even lower numbers than the “regular” models, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive will apparently be built alongside the gasoline-powered Final Edition models until the Summer of 2014, when Mercedes-Benz pulls the plug on it (bad pun, we know) and the upcoming AMG GT (C190) gets launched in its place.
We don't know if the 751 hp and 1,000 Nm (738 lb ft) of torque developed by the electric powertrain in the Electric Drive version of the SLS will find its way in an AMG GT variant or not, but it's certainly having an even shorter career than expected.
