Slow Motion Video of the Falcon 9 Coming to Port Is the Coolest Thing This Week

It’s no longer surprising for anyone to see a space rocket coming down to Earth in a controlled manner and landing either on a dedicated pad or on a drone ship in the middle of the ocean. Elon Musk and his SpaceX made such images possible and commonplace with their revolutionary Falcon 9 boosters.

Such a booster was responsible last weekend for returning space launches to American soil after a hiatus of almost ten yeas. Perched on top of it was the Crew Dragon, and inside that two men, who were taken safely to the International Space Station in a display of private engineering might.

The booster that put Crew Dragon into orbit then did its thing and landed on the Of Course I Still Love You drone ship. Unfortunately for those waiting to see it touch down, the live feed from the ship went down at the exact moment when the rocket arrived, and all we got to see was Falcon 9 on the pad after it arrived, as if it had been put there through magic.

After landing, the drone ship started its journey to the American mainland, and its arrival at Port Canaveral was this time captured on more than one camera. Some of them belonged to a group called Cosmic Perspective, and the images they captured are simply amazing.

The booster, standing proudly upright on the ship, can be seen on a background populated by fishermen, wildlife, kids running on the beach, surfers, all moving about in delicious slow motion.

“On May 30th, human access to space changed forever... and this was the rocket that made it happen. Falcon 9 launched Crew Dragon with NASA astronauts Bob and Doug from launchpad 39A, paving the way for new forms of private space travel that will open access to citizens all over the world. This is no ordinary rocket though, it returns to Earth, landing on the drone ship Of Course I still Love You (OCISLY),” the description of the video reads.

Enough said. Watch the action below.
