We're not sure what to make of sleeper projects that are based on those good old boxy Volvos. Sure, the Swedish machines have the proper look for the purpose, flying well under the radar, but plenty of drag racing aficionados have already seen what these square-jawed toys can do.
Regardless, we've brought along a recent example of such a Volvo. We're referring to a wagon build that was recently completed.

The family-friendly machine has been gifted with an LS V8 and, to make sure the thing becomes a drag strip star, the unit works with a turbocharger the size of Sweden.

To give an idea of how brutal this Volvo is, we'll mention the thing managed to drop an 8.9s quarter-mile, with a trap speed of 150 mph.

Engine compartment contents aside, the wheel and tire setup is also important, as the thing packs meaty drag radials at the back and skinny front tires.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the Swede has its full interior and accessories, down to the rear window wiper motor.

However, we have to keep in mind the station wagon has maintained its street-legal status.

In fact, the projects has been completed right before this year's Drag Week, an event that sees contraptions driving from one state to another under their own power.

In fact, the crew over at 1,320video, who caught the machine on camera, took the time to deliver its tale.

"Cutting it close, they managed to pull the car together only a few days before Hot Rod’s “Drag Week” 2018 began. With virtually no data, they started off the week with certification passes and continued to learn and tweak their way through competition as they clicked off faster passes every day! Starting in Atlanta, GA at Atlanta Dragway, Hot Rod Magazine’s “Drag Week” traveled through the Carolina’s, up through Tennessee, and back to Atlanta Dragway to complete the most challenging street car challenge in the world!" we are being told.
