It’s really hard to believe that an Australian-built Ford Territory could be faster than GM’s halo car, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, but the SUV we’re here to tell you about is far from being bone stock.
While the regular Territory fitted with Ford’s 4.0-liter DOHC inline-six engine leaves the factory with 265 hp (195 kW), the one you’re about to see below has been updated to produce about 478 horses (352 kW) at the wheels, with modifications consisting of an upgraded exhaust, a Plazmaman intercooler, a new fuel system by Independent Motorsports. The engine and the turbo remained untouched.

Despite its weight, the Territory was able to pull a quarter mile run of only 12.32 seconds at 116.9 miles per hour (188.1 km/h), which makes it quicker than a factory stock 2014 Corvette Stingray fitted with a seven-speed manual transmission and just 0.09 seconds slower than the same sportscar equipped with an automatic.

The former was achieved by Lashway Motorsports right after taking delivery of the then brand new car, while the latter time belongs to Hennessey Performance, who got their hands on a batch of new Vettes to develop several turbocharged and supercharged version.

Getting back to our sleeper Ford Territory, the video below was shot at Calder Park earlier this month and shows the SUV doing three different quarter mile runs.
