Slammed 2020 Toyota Supra Has Air Suspension, Sits So Low

Renderings of slammed 2020 Toyota Supras have been around for a few months, just like the sportscar itself. However, we can now check out the first real-life incarnation of a lowered Mk V Supra. Fortunately, the junior league ground clearance of the machine has been achieved via air suspension rather than lowering springs, so the thing will be able to get across driveways without too much drama.

The car we have here, which belongs to YouTuber TJ Hunt, acts like a prototype build for Accuair, the developer providing the hardware.

Fortunately, for those who wish to give their Supra the #bagged treatment, the suspension setup on the sportscar involves separate springs and dampers.

The idea was to keep the factory active dampers and while this goal was achieved, using the standard struts means the car doesn't go as low as possible. In fact, if one would go for custom struts, which would involve installing custom dampers, the ride height could lose an additional 2-3 inches, with the car sitting just two fingers above the groung in its most extreme setup. And you can compare the two setups at the 16:30 and 17:59 points of the video below.

So the said specialist made a thousand measurements and then came up with air springs that fit in the place of the factory coil springs without requiring any suspension mods.

Of course, installing the air tank, the "air bags" themselves, the air lines, the height sensors and the in-cabin controller took more than a full working day during this trial-and-error installation, so doing a rendering is still the quicker way to lower your Toyota Supra.

And since this system sees the air compressor being placed inside the trunk, the sound of the first won't roam freely through the cabin of the Supra.

Yes, this machine is heading to SEMA and yes, this year's edition of the show will basically be a Supra fest (here's another project coming to the Vegas venue, for example) - you'll get to see these toys on November 5-8.

Now, if you'd like to skip straight to the finished job, you can simply check out the screenshots above or head over to the 17:59 point of the video. Nevertheless, those of you who would like to zoom in on the whole process should also check out the rest of the clip.
