General Motors’ Chevrolet better take notice at the growing love for vintage K5 Blazers and start making preparations for a proper reinvention a la 2021 Ford Bronco. We really don’t mind the Tahoe being the model’s outright successor, because we already have the solution – just make the updated version a competitor to the recently unveiled Jeep Wagoneer. If that’s just wishful thinking, then we can always find solace in vintage options.
And we can easily find some interesting twists to the sprawling K5 Blazer community. Just like it was the case with this listing ready to cross the auction block during Mecum’s Dallas event taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center between October 15th and 17th.

This spectacularly slammed 1978 Chevrolet Blazer is almost scraping the tarmac as part of the auction house’s featured Hill’s Hot Rods Square Body Truck Collection, and has the alleged status of being a one-of-one, tailored, Blazer.

We are not going to argue with that, even though seeing it from the side brought us loving memories of Michael Jordan’s slam-dunk bred Nike Airs.

Joke aside, we could certainly appreciate the work done on the custom unit – though we also can’t but help wonder where in America is the new owner going to find that fine stretch of tarmac that’s completely devoid of even the smallest of potholes... Of course, the available “Air Ride” might come to the rescue.

Back to the listing, we noticed some interesting peculiarities of the build. Under the red hood sits a matching hue LS1 engine and a hidden 4L60 transmission, while the model’s stock removable top was replaced with a welded Suburban top and gate.

And that’s just the appetizer, because there are also a handful of other quirky details to make sure you’ll either love or hate this Blazer (with no chance of reconciliation after you made up your mind).

For example, the rear is apparently devoid of law-imposed taillights – though a keen observer might still notice the slim LED bars integrated into the bumper (a stark contrast to the appropriately vintage headlights).

The interior is another aspect to consider – it features a bespoke conversion done by JD Glassworks, but the brown leather and mahogany somehow feel off when associated with the Red and White exterior shades.
