The R230 generation of the legendary Mercedes-Benz SL received two facelifts during its life span, but the most extreme one happened in 2008, giving it a much angrier look, especially when seen from the front.
The SL 55 AMG – also known as the “base” AMG version – transformed into the SL 63 AMG, since the old M113 supercharged V8 (5.4 liters) was replaced by the AMG-developed M156 naturally aspirated V8 (6.2 liters).
With 525 hp and 630 Nm (465 lb ft), the then new engine wasn't based on any Mercedes-Benz mill but completely developed by AMG engineers in Affalterbach.
Long story short, the previous generation of the SL 63 AMG was the first to sport the now fabled M156 engine and the current arrow-like design motif for the front apron. If you missed the angry-look of the car, especially in a completely blacked-out version with fabulous 20-inch D2 Forged CV2 Concave wheels, the model depicted in the following video and photo gallery is more that anyone would ever want.
