Back in early January, we reported that the creators of Skully, the smart HUD helmet was about to enter a new development stage and a crowdfunding campaign kicked off. The good news is that the project was funded, while the even better news is that the creators of the Skully helmet already raised 350% of the money they needed in the first place. Now, for the glorious news… the AR-1 helmet has been confirmed for the spring of 2015, with Skully already taking pre-orders.
The AR-1 boasts a truly impressive array of smart technologies implemented for creating a ”virtual ecosystem” for the modern rider. The Skully helmet has GPS integration, with the smartphone app automatically downloading maps based on your location, heads-up display with a ton of available info which can be delivered, Bluetooth integration for music and phone calls, voice-activated controls and e-tint anti-fog, glare-free and scratchproof visor.
Probably one of the best features is the ultra-wide, ultra-tall 180-degree camera which eliminates blind spots, allowing riders to actually see what’s going on behind them at certain angles without shoulder checking the road. The brain of the Skully AR-1 is a high-speed microprocessor powered by a rechargeable battery which can last for up to 9 hours of continuous use, and which is easily rechargeable just like a phone.
On the safety side, the AR-1 comes with DOT and ECE certification, quick release chin strap and visor, exchangeable cheek pads and will be offered in sizes S through XXL. Now, the early adopters of the Skully AR-1 smart helmet can make sure they get theirs in May 2015 for a $1,399 (€1,050) deposit, while forking out $25,000 (€18,730) can get you one of the 4 prototypes in February 2015.
