Just a little over a week ago we learned the first bits of info about Skoda’s new challenger for the 2015 WRC2 run. Today, we caught up with the R5 model in Shanghai as well and we were surprised to see that it looks even better in real life.
Compared to the model unveiled via an online photo gallery, the car presented on the show’s floor is wearing a different livery, one that seems ready for action. The Skoda Motorsport stickers are present, as always.

Apart from those, it’s really nice to see the white car sporting the traditional colors of the Czech manufacturer. Green went almost everywhere, from the front spoiler to the bonnet, roof, doors and even the wheels.

As for the car, it was properly prepared for the challenges ahead. As you can notice, carbon fiber aero body parts were added to the mix, like the roof scoop and the bonnet fins along with a wider body kit that covers the wheels and their modified suspension.

Under the bonnet hides a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that’s good for some serious power. For a car that weighs just a little over 1.2 tons, that’s a lot, especially since it has all-wheel drive and a sequential 5-speed gearbox on board.

Competing in the WRC 2 category of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), the Czech Rally Championship (M R) and the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), the new R5 model will be driven by Pontus Tidemand from Sweden in the latter series. That also means that the R5 will be present in China for at least one round and that’s probably why the Czechs decided to reveal it in its war paint at the Shanghai Auto Show.
