All the major brands under the VW Group umbrella have prepared radical new concept cars for this year's Worthersee GTI Meet in Austria. However, Skoda is the only company to chose an SUV with Dakar rally looks. Say hello to the Yeti Xtreme, which seems to have read the book on how to make a funky MINI Countryman and packs more neon colors than a 90s house music rave.
Around 200,000 hot hatch fans will get to see the customized Yeti compact SUV next week. The concept features significantly beefier looks than your regular Yeti, thanks to flared wheel arches, large offroad wheels and tires and modifications to the bumpers.

Something we'd love to see trickle down to production Yetis is the paintjob. Matte gray is used in combination with bright yellow-green accents for the roof and wheel rim inserts.

The suspension can be adjusted for offroad use and if the Yeti Xtreme finds itself stuck, traction mats that can be pushed under the wheels. The capable braking system of an Octavia RS has also been installed.

The interior of the Yeti has been customized using a rally theme wit an aluminum floor panel, Recaro sports seats, carbon fibre trim, ‘Super Sports’ steering wheel, iPad cradle and an emergency fire extinguisher.

Things are a little less impressive under the bonnet. There, a 1.8-liter TSI gearbox is allowed to produce only 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque, sent to all-fours via a six-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG). 0 to 100 km/h takes a slow 9 seconds and the top speed of 192 km/h is not enough to win any rallies.

This is by no means Skoda's only Worthersee car. Yesterday, they revealed the CitiJet, a chopped speedster created by the Czech company's apprentices and based on the Citigo. Sister brand SEAT has also announced its chopped two-seater, the Cupster, while Audi revealed an A3 sedan with 525 hp and carbon fiber bits. but the biggest arrival will come from Volkswagen, a radical GTI-inspired vision of a speediness.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
