Skoda Working on Logan Rival

Earlier today it has emerged that Skoda is working on a new model that would join the range between the Fabia subcompact and the Octavia sedan. However, according to a report by Autonews, the car is specifically aimed to act as a low-budget model and thus compete against other cheap models sold across Europe, including Dacia's already-popular Logan.

According to the aforementioned source, Skoda's latest contraption would be specifically designed to fit consumers looking for a larger family car, which once again makes us believe that the Czech manufacturer is indeed developing a Logan fighter.

On the other hand, pricing is rumored to start at around 260,000 crowns ($13,650), as reported by the Mlada Fronta Dnes Czech daily, which, in the context of a Dacia - Skoda rivalry, makes the future model a bit more expensive that the Logan currently sold for $13,000 for the top-of-the-range version (in sedan configuration).

Skoda CEO Reinhard Jung said back in November that the Czech manufacturer is indeed working on a low-budget model and hinted that it could arrive in a three-year timeframe. However, a production version of the model is yet to be confirmed.

Other details are still unconfirmed, but Skoda is believed to provide more information on the subject at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show next week.

autoevolution will be attending the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
