Skoda Turns Up Rugged Meter With New Superb Outdoor

The Skoda Superb is one of the most capable all-rounders in its class. If you buy one with all-wheel drive, it will be all the car you will ever need, and it will get you out of most tricky situations, where other cars would just stop.

Now, Skoda have made it even more rugged, with the introduction of a crossover-esque version, called ‘Outdoor’. It is available only with all-wheel drive and in estate form, starting at £26,465, in the UK - it carries a premium of £3,000 over the regular estate model. The basic engine available for the car is the VW group’s 1.8-liter TFSI unit, which produces 160 hp.

Diesels, however, will probably be the big sellers, and the familiar 2.0-liter TDI unit is available with either 140 hp or 170 hp, and the standard manual six-speed gearbox can be upgraded to a seven-speed dual-clutch setup at extra cost.

The car comes loaded with kit, including a leather-clad steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, hill-hold assist, heated windscreen washer nozzles, as well as the usual plastic body cladding that such cars are usually fitted with.

Also, with the diesel model returning a respectable 44.8 mpg (6.3 l/100km), emissions of 165 g/km of CO2 as well as a 30,000 mile (48,000 km) three year warranty, it really is a good deal, for the amount of car you are getting.
