Skoda is just one small part of Volkswagen's empire but, just like the rest of the brands, it has to expand its business in order to help the parent company reach its goal of becoming the world's number one carmaker by 2018. In order to do so, Skoda will create hundreds of jobs this year, each of them supposed to back the new projects the Czech manufacturer has in store for this year.
And things are pretty much going the right direction for Skoda, as 2010 brought a new sales record for the Czech manufacturer. The company sold a total of 762,600 cars, helped by strong demand from emerging markets. The result is 11.5 percent higher than the 684,200 Skodas shifted in 2009.
“In 2010, Skoda achieved an outstanding performance. In almost all markets, we have had significant growth and increased our market share. Once again, our sales have risen at a double-digit pace. In the most significant developing markets, our growth rates are above 40%,” stated Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, Chairman of the Board of Skoda Auto.
Not much is known about the projects to be developed by Skoda, but the company will most likely turn its focus on fuel efficient engines and new vehicles that would better suit the markets it is currently active in.
"Within the framework of the Skoda growth strategy, we will shift up a gear in the coming years. By 2018, we want to at least double our worldwide sales. In order to do so, we will clearly expand the Skoda model range and strengthen the activities in international markets,” Skoda’s Chairman also stated earlier this year while emphasizing that the company's main goal is to help VW become the number one carmaker in the world.
