Skoda Supports 2010 Down Under Cycling Tour

2010 is the third consecutive year in which Skoda Australia offers support for the country’s cycling stage as premier sponsor and official car partner of the 2010 Tour Down Under, which takes place in and around Adelaide - the tour has started on January 17 and will end on January 24.

All the team and organization cars at this event will be Skodas, as the manufacturer has provided a fleet of 110 vehicles for the tour: the company’s complete model range will be present, from the helping-hand Roomster to the image-enhancing Superb.

The Tour Down Under was the first UCI ProTour event to take place outside Europe in 2008 and it is now the cycling season’s opening event. Cycling legend Lance Armstrong has returned to the Tour Down Under this year and he is competing against Australia’s new talent and Skoda Ambassador Jack Bobridge.

Another pedal-powered competition which the Czech manufacturer is offering support for is the “Skoda Breakaway Series”, including the Mutual Community Challenge Tour, a competition that allows the public to ride the same stages as the professionals.

Our support and involvement in Australian cycling and The Tour Down Under has had a significant role in the way the Skoda brand has evolved in the Australian market in the sense of what we stand for as a brand. It is a great participation sport for all people and enables us to reach out and show people who we are and what we offer through our involvement,” said Head of Skoda Australia, Matthew Wiesner.

It’s no surprise that Skoda is interested in cycling events, as the company started out as a bicycle producer at the end of the 19th century.

The Skoda Octavia RS Wagon will also be present - since it’s a cycling competition, the speeds won’t exceed a certain limit so we would be very curious to see how this sporty vehicle feels about having to tame its horses through the whole competition.
