Skoda Auto managed to beat all previous records to achieve its best-ever sales result in 2010. The company sold a staggering 762,600 cars, helped by strong demand from emerging markets. The result is 11.5 percent higher than the 684,200 Skodas shifted in 2009.
“In 2010, Skoda achieved an outstanding performance. In almost all markets, we have had significant growth and increased our market share. Once again, our sales have risen at a double-digit pace. In the most significant developing markets, our growth rates are above 40%,” stated Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, Chairman of the Board of Skoda Auto.
Company cars receive a total of 25 major awards last year, including Best Manufacturer in the What Car? Reader Awards 2010, Best Manufacturer in the 2010 Auto Express Driver Power survey and Which? Best Car Manufacturer of the year 2010. Skoda’s success continued in the UK as sales showed a huge increase over 41,000 cars, up 10.5% when compared to the previous year, whilst also reaching a record 2% market share.
The brand has profited from increased demand in Europe thanks to the availability of scrapping schemes, introduced by governments to stimulate car sales during the economic downturn, but the major sales success came from China.
"Within the framework of the Skoda growth strategy, we will shift up a gear in the coming years. By 2018, we want to at least double our worldwide sales. In order to do so, we will clearly expand the Skoda model range and strengthen the activities in international markets,” Skoda’s Chairman also said, assessing the positive result as a major step forward within the framework of the growth strategy for the brand.
