If you own a white Skoda Scala hatchback, your chances of having people jump out of your way have increased tenfold. Skoda has put together a special version of its car for the British police, though only time will tell if they buy it.
The Scala has put on a fresh uniform and looks a little more imposing as a result. This includes the blue and yellow livery over white paint, LED lights built into the grille and front screen, plus a roof-mounted bar and three-tone siren.
Skoda's latest press statement also be used by the ambulance and fire and rescue departments. The statement doesn't reveal which engine has been fitted. The most powerful available is a 1.5-liter making 150 HP, but most patrol vehicles are diesel, so it's probably the 1.6 TDI making 115 HP.
That's hardly the stuff of legend. Meanwhile, the Dubai police have a growing fleet of supercars. But we think Britain would be outraged if the local beat cop arrived in an Aston Martin or McLaren.
“Our partnership with emergency services teams stretches back over a century”, said the company’s fleet chief, Henry Williams. “It’s that extensive knowledge in the sector that makes Skoda a reliable partner for both technologically advanced cars and value for money, and Scala, our most connected car to date, more than fits the bill.”
The Scala has to be one of the least intimidating police cars ever made. I mean, can you even imagine something like these ramming suspects during a car chase. But it's a good choice for normal city responders, as it's got low running costs.
British police are known for their Vauxhall Astra and Insignia marked vehicles. However, there are a lot more unmarked models. If you're being followed by a high-trim Skoda Superb or Subaru Forester, chances are you're in trouble. There's also Audis, BMW and a few SUVs as well.
