Skoda Sales Continue to Impress in April

The Czech carmaker Skoda has announced that its global sales have increased almost 24 percent during the month of April compared to the same month of last year. Thanks to the 78,200 units delivered to customers worldwide, last month was also the best April ever from the sales point of view.

Cumulated figures for the January-April period of the year point to a 22 percent increase in sales, from the 242,100 reported in 2010 to the 295,3000 of this year.

“We are very satisfied with the sales figures. With a growth of almost one quarter in the first four months we have sent a clear message and are fully on course regarding our growth strategy. Contributions to this result did not just come from the growth regions either. We are stronger than ever on the European market and have won many new customers,” explains Jurgen Stackmann, the Skoda board member for sales and marketing.

On its domestic market of the Czech Republic, Skoda increased its sales to a total of 19,000 units in the first four months of 2011. The carmaker sold 4,900 units there in the last month alone, during a declining market.

On the larger European front, particularly outstanding were deliveries in the Netherlands with a plus of 83.3 percent and in Belgium with a plus of 26.8 percent. Meanwhile, the brand’s position on the growth markets of Russia, India, and China continues to improve, showing double-digit growth. With a plus of 40.5 percent and 5,900 sold vehicles, Skoda achieved its best ever monthly sales record in Russia, while in China, the it achieved its second-best month ever. Here, deliveries rose 66.2 percent to 20,100 units in April, compared to just over 12,000 last year.
