With the success of previous Scout models, it was only a matter of time before Skoda put another one into production. Today, the Czech automaker hit us with 3 press photos and loose initial details about the Octavia III based soft-roader before its official debut next month in Geneva.
From a distance, it looks like any other Octavia Combi, except for the black wheel arches, the slightly beefy wheels and metallic protective bits sticking out the front of the car. However, the suspension setup was developed completely separately from the Combi, with 33 mm added to the ground clearance.
From a powertrain point of view, the Octavia Scout features a Haldex-5 all-wheel drive system. The robust system offers a 25% increase in towing capacity and improved climbing abilities. Without going into details, Skoda says there will be three engines available, two of them diesel and one petrol. There's no way of knowing for sure which ones they are, but a sister model from seat called the Leon 4DRIVE comes with 1.6 TDI and the 150 PS version of the 2.0 TDI unit. VW has a tradition of not putting the best diesels on Skodas, which is why we don't think 170 PS or 184 PS version of the 2-liter TDI will be available with the Scout. The petrol engine can only be the 180 PS 1.8 TSI turbo, the only unit of its kind to be offed by Skoda with 4x4 on the Combi.
