Skoda Rapid Voted Best Family Car in India. Still Waiting in Europe!

Right now, the European car industry is struggling to recover from the years of excess, when everybody and their grandmother bought a luxury SUV on credit. It’s our view that the market needs good, sensible and very affordable cars like the Renault Duster or the Skoda Octavia in order for people to continue living normal lives and get the income they need.
So with the 2012 widely seen as being a tough one, we’d have expected that Skoda would bring the new Rapid compact sedan faster. Unfortunately, all we got this year was the Citigo, but it looks like the Rapid will indeed make an impact when it arrives next year, as it’s won an award for “Family Car of the Year” in India, the only major market where it’s available right now.

“We are delighted that the Rapid has already received this renowned award just a few days after its official launch,” says Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, the chairman of the board of Skoda. “We want to accelerate our worldwide growth in the coming years considerably. The Indian market plays a central role in that effort. With the Rapid, Skoda is also present in the largest vehicle segment of the Indian market. Honoring the model as the “Family Car of the Year” in India shows us that we are on the right path.”

“The Rapid is a car for the entire family and for a multitude of applications. An all-round talent – simply a true Skoda,” emphasizes Winfried Vahland.
