Skoda just made the practical Rapid Spaceback family hatch a little more rugged by adding a trim level called ScoutLine.
Skoda Rapid Spaceback ScoutLine is a name nobody who's sane will ever try to remember. But let's attempt to dissect this green frog of a car and see what it's made of. The first thing we learned from the press release is the reason it's not a full Scout model: there's no AWD.
We suspected as much when we saw the first images of a prototype undergoing testing. There has never been an all-wheel drive car based on the PQ25 platform, and there's no reason to start now. Instead, you just get tough looks, like the Sandero Stepway or Polo Cross.
The cosmetic changes include a new front bumper with matte black plastic inserts. Scratch those while going over a rock and you won't cry yourself to sleep that night.
The wheel arches, side sills and back bumper all have a similar finish. Skoda also offers the ScoutLine with 16-inch "Rock" and 17-inch "Camelot" alloy wheels that are specific to this model. The silver mirror caps and front trim piece make us think of the Audi A6 allroad.
All the engines from the standard Rapid Spaceback are carried over except the GreenLine fuel-sipper, since there was no point for that. You can choose between two versions of the 1.2 TSI, one 1.4 TSI and several small diesels. All mills have just been updated to meet the Euro 6 emissions standard and have standard regenerative braking system and start/stop.
You can thank the new Fabia for the development of those features, as is the case for the upgraded infotainment system with MirrorLink and other tech improvements. Skoda says the Skoda Rapid Spaceback ScoutLine will be launched this month, but at the time of writing we couldn't find any pricing information on the major company websites.
