Skoda Rapid (Sedan) Monte Carlo Revealed Ahead of Frankfurt Debut

Czech carmaker Skoda has no major debuts lined up for this year's edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Instead, the company will reveal a series of upgrades, starting with the Rapid Monte Carlo.

The principality's name is used by the Czech carmaker to denote a special body kit. It adds flair without doing anything for the engine. Though some might consider it a face, this combination is popular with many of Skoda's younger buyers.

The Rapid sedan, which isn't actually a sedan, was the first model to arrive, back in 2012. Yet the Rapid hatchback received the Monte Carlo treatment before it. Skoda rectified this error and introduced the sixth model in the sports range.

As usual, we're going to share a short list of changes before telling you that there are no power gains. So, here we go!

Starting at the front, we notice a black chin spoiler and a re-painted grille. Skoda has also painted the mirrors and B-pillars black, which looks good in combination with the 17-inch alloy wheels and the red paint. Black side skirts and a slightly tweaked rear spoiler complete the package.

Monte Carlo is technically a trim level, unlike Volkswagen's R-Line. Standard equipment includes xenon projector headlights, tinted fog lights, heated adjustable mirrors and a few interior goodies. These include a three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in leather, just like the handbrake and gear lever.

Of course, the Monte Carlo theme does nothing for what's under the bonnet. The Rapid will still come with three TSI gasoline engines with 90, 110 and 125 PS along with a couple of diesels rated at 90 and 116 PS. All these mills meet the Euro 6 regulations and come as standard with a regenerative braking system and start/stop.

Also, expect to see the Rapid Spaceback ScoutLine making its presence felt later this month at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.
