The Rapid is a compact sedan which carves a niche for itself in the Skoda range, between the Jetta-sized Octavia and Polo-sized Fabia. It was previewed by the Mission L concept, which was revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, and judging by the design sketches, it will be almost identical to it, with only minor changes.
Also, despite having a sedan-esque shape, it will, in fact, be a hatchback, a trick Skoda also pulled with the current generation Octavia, thus giving a carrying capacity of around 500 liters. Styling-wise, the car is quite bland, to be honest, but it is a big step forward from any and all current products in their range and the overall design is very clean and fuss free.
The car is expected to receive only sub 2.0-liter engines, so that it doesn’t encroach on Octavia teritory in the Skoda range. Expect to see the car officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, in September. Also, what's with this trend of namig cars ironically. Why would they call this the Rapid, when it clearly will not be. Because Suzuki named their very slow city car of the 1990s the 'Swift', when it clearly was anything but.
