While we're busy dreaming of ever hotter versions of their cars, Skoda is sticking to what it knows best and is making ever more practical cars. Among the new models planned by the Czech carmaker is this, an estate version of the new Rapid sedan.
Designed from the start to be affordable but well built, the Rapid is currently available only as a five-door sedan and is built around a platform evolved from the Fabia supermini.

Spy photos from Nachoferio show what is likely a production-ready Rapid Combi. Skoda's engineers did a decent job of covering up their tracks. The taillights have been made to look like a previous-generation Fabia and they've even added the Fabia badge for good measure. But the rear hatch definitely belongs to the Rapid.

Having a bigger boot on a Combi model that's much cheaper than the Octavia should attract plenty of buyers. A range of TSI and TDI engines will be available, but most customers will probably want the 1.6-liter TDI, a good highway companion with excellent economy.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
