Skoda Produced 100,000 Yetis in Two Years

Skoda has just announced that the 100,000 compact SUV has just rolled off the assembly line today at the Czech plant in Kvasiny. This figure was achieved in by the carmaker in just two years and looks set to increase in the future as Skoda tries to expand its global appeal.

Besides Kvasiny, production has also been taking place in the Indian city of Aurangabad since 2010. Furthermore, the vehicle is assembled in the semi knocked down (SKD) procedure in the Russian city of Kaluga, highlighting the popularity of the model in both markets.

“The Yeti is a great success for SKODA. The fact that we have already cracked the threshold of 100,000 produced vehicles after only two years firmly emphasizes that. The Yeti is one of the best offerings in the market with regard to the popular compact SUV segment. The Yeti plays an important role for our growth strategy. That’s why we have decided to produce in China as well, beginning in 2013. The manufacture in Shanghai will provide the Yeti with another boost and will make an important contribution toward the internationalization of SKODA,” says Michael Oeljeklaus, the board member for the area of production.

In just the last first four months of this year, demand for the compact SUV has increased by 34 percent compared to a year ago, while in 2010, the brand delivered 52,600 Yetis to customers.

Starting with the 2011 model year, the vehicle is available with 4×4 all-wheel drive or with front wheel drive. Moreover, the Yeti is also available in the environmentally friendly GreenLine version, while also providing a five-star safety rating, according to Euro NCAP.
