Skoda’s Octavia is easily one of the most successful cars not made by a gigantic manufacturer (albeit one that is part of a gigantic carmaker). It has sold really well throughout most of Europe, as well as China where it is no longer imported, as it is manufactured there for the local market.
Now, though, according to autocar.co.uk, Skoda will be pushing the all-new Octavia further upmarket, as the new Rapid can cover the gap in the range left by the entry-level Octavia, which will be made more expensive than it is now. Furthermore, the MQB-underpinned model will be able to accommodate a hybrid system, which is becoming increasingly necessary in most manufacturer’s car lineups.
Also, judging by the current car’s (as well as the previous version’s) success, we are inclined to make a prediction that the upcoming Octavia will be a very good, competent and very keenly priced car, in a marketplace overcrowded with overpriced hatchbacks.
