Skoda Octavia Scout Trekking in the Great Outback

Forty two days were necessary for the Skoda Octavia Scout Wagon to travel 20,285 km in the Australian Outback before coming to a halt at the Melbourne International Motor Show. The endeavor is part of Skoda's marketing campaign for the event.

The Octavia Scout 4X4 Wagon did not sink in the desert sand because it is fitted with a second-generation Haldex differential, which allows power to be transferred between the front and rear wheels when it is required, providing increased traction on loose surfaces.

The trekker has a 2.0l TDI engine under its hood, linked to a six speed manual transmission. The powerplant produces 140 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, more than enough for you to start competing against the countries' road-trains.

The brave Octavia was fitted with the standard equipment of your everyday Scout. The standard package includes 17 inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, electronic stability program (ESP), six airbags, rear acoustic parking sensors, cruise control and twin chrome exhausts.

If by chance you want to repeat the adventure, the 4x4 comes with more than enough luggage space. The 1,620 liters of space with the rear seats down will allow you to carry enough supplies for most of the 42 days.

Anyone who will want one of these after they go to the Melbourne International Motor Show must do some saving. Pricing for the Octavia Scout 4X4 Wagon starts at $39,990, food and drinks for the road not included.

The Octavia Scout 4X4 Wagon was introduced last August and its producer says the car is part of the compact SUV segment.
