The Octavia is by far the most popular Skoda model of all time. Even though the current generation remains competitive, a mid-life refresh is expected to bring the design in line with the rest of the family.
A British magazine claims that they have exclusive images of the 2017 Octavia facelift. In reality, it's just some E-Class headlights photoshopped in, but they wouldn't have bothered with this relatively unpopular subject unless there was some truth to the matter.
Auto Express says the entire Octavia range will benefit from some major design changes next year. They should mirror the Superb and Kodiaq, which represent a new era in Skoda design.
Just like the Golf, the Octavia has a lot of body styles that need testing. These include the sedan, wagon, a few RS models, the eco version and the Scout crossover. Despite nobody has ever seen one of these Octavia facelifts.
But it's not that strange for Skoda to put off road testing until the last moment, since they have their own test facilities that are away from public eyes.
The Octavia was one of the first MQB cars, together with the Golf, Audi A3 and SEAT Leon. They came out at roughly the same time, and the Audi already has its facelift, soon to be followed by the Leon and Golf.
Lastly, we cannot forget how drastic the facelift for the previous generation Octavia was. It went from a boxy sedan in 2004 to something that even looks good today.
Although there are no precise details regarding this, the Octavia might get new engines as well. After replacing the 1.2 TSI with the 1.0 Skoda could get rid of the 1.6 TDI and either replace it with a 1.4 TDI, a 1.5 TDI or a de-tuned 2.0 TDI. We know, that's a little vague.
What's not vague is the possibility of the 1.4 being replaced by the 1.5 TSI from Volkswagen. The 1.8 TSI petrol engine hasn't been that popular, so it's either going to be dropped completely or replaced with the 2.0 TSI from the Kodiaq.
