Skoda Octavia Combi Hatchback Gets 4x4 System on Three TDI and One TSI Engines

Even though Skoda is busy promoting the new Fabia, it has found time to add new tech to the Octavia midsize model. Today, the Czech car company announced that on select versions of the Octavia Combi, all-wheel drive will be made available.

This system is based on the same Haldex 5 clutch that's used by all the other cars based on the MQB platform. It was already available on the Scout, but now you can order 4x4 without the protective gray plastic cladding.

The engines chosen are the same as those used by the Octavia Scout, as well as the Golf Alltrack and SEAT Leon X-Perience. There's only one petrol available, the 180 PS 1.8 TSI, followed by tree diesels, which include a 105 PS 1.6 TDI and two 2-liter units making either 150 or 184 PS.

Skoda says this is their seventh car available with all wheel-drive and that it will help them increase sales even further. Octavia deliveries in Western Europe grew by 34.8 per cent in the first nine months of 2014, making this a clear winner in the mid-class segment.

The two main advantages of ordering 4x4 on the Octavia hatchback are that losing traction is going to be much harder, while towing capacity is increased. With the 150 PS version of the 2-liter TDI, the Octavia can even pull a 2-ton trailer. Here are the main specs of the Octavia Combi 4x4 complete range:

  • 1.6 TDI Green tec 77 kW (105 PS) boasts a combined fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100 km (63 mpg UK). CO2 emissions are 119 g/km. With the entry-level engine, the Octavia 4×4 accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.5 seconds, and its top speed is 191 km/h (119 mph).
  • 2.0 TDI Green tec 110 kW (150 PS) consumes 4.7 liters diesel per 100 km (60 mpg UK) and emits 122 g of CO2 per km. Top speed is 215 km/h (134 mph). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 8.6 seconds.
  • 135 kW (184 PS) version of the 2.0 TDI Green tec consumes 4.9 liter per 100 km (58 mpg UK). CO2 emissions are 129 g/km. The engine accelerates the Octavia 4x4 from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 7.1 seconds. The top speed is 228 km/h (142 mph).
  • 1.8 TSI Green tec 132 kW (180 PS) is exclusively available with automatic six-speed DSG transmission. The combined consumption is 6.7 l/100 km (42 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 154 g/km. The Octavia 4×4 with this engine is capable of a top speed of 229 km/h (142 mph). It will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.4 seconds.
