Ever since Skoda entered the Volkswagen Group portfolio, the Czech automaker has been improving year after year. As far as crossovers are concerned, the Yeti was replaced by the Karoq but there’s a bigger option in the lineup in the guise of the Kodiaq.
The mid-size CUV is now available as a police vehicle in the United Kingdom, complete with reflective markings, 360-degree LED signal lights, and 100-amp siren. “The high-performance credentials of the Kodiaq vRS make it a powerful addition to the pursuit vehicle lineup,” commented Henry Williams, head of fleet at Skoda.
Thanks to the 2.0 Bi-TDI four-cylinder diesel, the engine in the Kodiaq vRS is capable of shooting to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.0 seconds. Top speed? Make that 136 mph (219 km/h), thank you! Coming as standard with all-wheel drive, the most powerful Kodiaq on offer is also complemented by the seven-speed DSG instead of a six-speed manual transmission.
As opposed to other police vehicles in the United Kingdom, this one is trimmed in Alcantara, the sports seats feature memory function, and the cabin is complemented by the 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster. As if those weren’t enough, SmartLink+ enables seamless smartphone integration for devices running either Android and iOS.
Introduced as a one-stop shop package for emergency services fleets, the Kodiaq vRS for police duty can be outright purchased or financed through Volkswagen Financial Services. Fleet managers are also treated to contract hire or cost-effective leasing, whichever or the two fits their budget better.
The civilian specification starts at £25,775 on-the-road for the SE trim level with five seats. Level up to the SE 7, and you’re looking at £26,755. At the other end of the spectrum, the vRS is more expensinve than the luxed-up Laurin and Klement, coming exclusively with seven seats at £42,895.
As for alternatives, there are two within the Volkswagen Group for the Kodiaq. One of them is the SEAT Tarraco at £28,335 while the other comes in the guise of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace at £30,965 from the get-go.
