The Skoda Karoq crossover is ready for duty in the UK, where it will be used across all emergency services, meaning police, ambulance and fire and rescue. In order to perform well at these jobs, the Karoq will undergo bespoke conversions that include a fully integrated communications platform, powerful LED signal lights and 100-amp three-tone sirens.
When fully converted, the Karoq Rapid Response vehicle features 360-degree visibility thanks to powerful LED signal lights built into the front screen, grille, tailgate and the number plate.
It also boasts 20.7 cu.ft (588 liters) of trunk space with the VarioFlex seating option, which expands to 63.9 cu.ft (1,810 liters) with the seats fully removed. This means you get plenty of room for various operational equipment.
Meanwhile, the conversion also works in harmony with Skoda’s 8-inch infotainment system, which is paired with the previously mentioned fully integrated communications platform. It’s important for first responders to operate this equipment effortlessly while on the move.
These emergency services fleets will also benefit from a modified chassis, while boasting state-of-the-art medical technology, a roll-out tray in the luggage compartment, plus a back-up electricity source – you can never be too ready when dealing with a crisis.
In terms of power units, you can get the Karoq with a wide range of gasoline and diesel-sipping engines, providing between 110 hp and 190 hp, with a choice of six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmissions. If you opt for the 2.0 TSI gasoline version, you get all-wheel drive as standard.
Having an all-wheel drive system can be very important for emergency services, especially during challenging conditions. There’s also the optional Performance Package, offering enhanced traction on slippery surfaces.
As for safety and driver assistance tech, there are up to nine airbags available to the Karoq, plus driver aids such as Crew Protect Assist and Travel Assist.
