Contrary to what you might think, you won’t see this Skoda Kamiq take on the Saharan dunes, nor those of any other desert for that matter, as it is purely a concept in the making.
It has yet to receive an official name, but it is part of the AZUBI project, which sees the brand’s students make a one-off vehicle each year, under the Skoda Academy banner.

A team of 25 young people is working on the eighth such model, which, as we already said, builds on the Kamiq. The subcompact crossover, which shares its construction with the Volkswagen Polo, among others, will be turned into a “rally car for desert racing,” the Czech company says.

The students have done an excellent job. The designs reflect their creativity and passion for the project,” said Skoda’s Exterior Design Coordinator, Jiri Hadascok. “Our visit to Skoda Design was great; we got valuable advice from the experienced designers, plus our dream car is really coming together thanks to their support,” added Adela Nesnerova, one of the students involved in the project.

The official sketch accompanying the announcement reveals a rather overenthusiastic take on the vehicle. It has ultra-fat fenders on all four corners, very muscular hood, lowered roofline with what appear to be missing B pillars, gigantic wing at the back, and chunky rubber wrapped around the OEM wheels that, in turn, appear to be bigger than usual.

Skoda will gradually reveal the eighth student car as the design advances. The study follows in the footsteps of the previous concepts, with work including the 2020 Slavia Roadster, 2019 Mountiaq, 2018 Sunroq, 2017 Element, 2016 Atero, 2015 FUNstar, and 2014 CitiJet. The auto firm’s previous show cars made by their students can be seen in the image gallery above, next to the official sketch that previous the upcoming one.
