The Czech brand is celebrating 15 years since it has introduced a standard umbrella incorporated into the door of the 2001 Superb, so they extended (pun intended) the offer for almost all of the models in the range.

However, there is a catch - the recipients of the umbrella will not have a dedicated cutout in the door, but will find it in a special compartment beneath the seat.

Furthermore, the built-in umbrella from Skoda is not standard for neither of the three models that will be able to get it. Only customers of the SE models or above for the Citigo and Fabia ranges in the United Kingdom will get the umbrella as standard, while Octavia buyers will be able to order the item in exchange for 25 pounds.

In the case of Octavia customers, the umbrella is only available as an option for models with the SE trim level or above. There is no built-in umbrella availability announced for the Yeti or Rapid.

We must note that Skoda’s built-in umbrella is not just a household item that has been placed in a box beneath the driver’s seat of the vehicles mentioned above. Instead, it sits in a ventilated tray with a water-repellent lining, while the fabric that makes the umbrella do its job features an anti-bacterial coating.

In the case of the United Kingdom, Skoda has announced it has decided to introduce this optional element because the country has an average of 133 days of rainfall every year. According to the Meteorological Office, the United Kingdom has an average rainfall of 885 mm a year, including hail, sleet, and snow.

Skoda is not the only automaker to provide an umbrella in its cars, as Rolls-Royce shares this feature as well. Starting with August 8, 2016, British commoners will be able to afford a new car that comes with an umbrella. European-wide availability has not yet been confirmed.

Evidently, the umbrellas used by the two brands are not comparable, but the Czech model does get to have one exclusive option that is only shared as an idea with the prestigious brand from Goodwood.
