Skoda-Inspired R200 Channels Its Inner Sportscar to Put on Drift Show

The Hoffmann & Novague R200 has inched closer to becoming a production reality by proving its worth on the track. Sure, it's only an Audi R8 Mk I underneath all that retro styling, but we love it nonetheless.
Inspired by the legendary Skoda 130 RS from the 1980s, this Czech project has recently taken to the track, where it performed shenanigans no modern day Skoda can.

The underpinnings of this sportscar belong to the old Audi R8, more specifically a V8 model with 430 horsepower and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

"From the very beginning of our joint venture, our objective was a determination to impose a fresh creative energy on Czech automotive design, along with hand production of the highest quality,"
says Hoffmann & Novague in a statement to the press.

The most noticeable changes are condensed at the front end of the car, where the Audi R8 has been gifted with huge 70s style round headlights. Because they have multiple LED projectors arranged in a circle, they look like they just came off a Bentley Mulsanne or Bentayga. Considering the Czech company does prototype part development for the VW Group, that could actually be the case here.

Upon seeing the video below, we thought there was something fishy about the way in which the Audi R8 chassis performs. Upon reading a detailed report about the specs of the car, we learned from Auto Forum that the R200 is rear-wheel-driven. So yes, they have toyed with the quattro differential and deleted the front prop shafts.

Despite only having 430 horsepower, this retro-inspired machine will reportedly sprint to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 280 km/h. Maybe those are numbers they know nobody will put to the test, or the R8 has undergone a strict diet.

Earlier reports suggested Marek Hoffmann, the director of Metal Hoffmann, wanted to sell the R200 to customers for €255,000, with production strictly limited to 24 units. It makes you wonder what kind of customer would pay Lamborghini Huracan money for this car.
