Skoda Citigo vs. Toyota Aygo vs. Hyundai i10: Which Is the Best Cheap Car?

This is an excellent cross-section of the market since two of the cars, the Aygo and Citigo, have sister models from other brands that are identical. So if you've fallen in love with the VW Up!, for example, know that everything said about the Citigo applies to it as well.

The two most important things for this segment are insurance and lease prices since young buyers are always on a budget. But that doesn't mean you should expect a lack of features or bad styling. You'd be surprised to see how much big-car tech they've crammed into them. With about 250 liters of cargo space, they are also sufficiently good at dealing with the weekly shop.

Styling is subjective, but we find the Citigo the least appealing of the trio. Even in this green color, it's like a household appliance. It also doesn't come with big infotainment like the other two or the 1-liter turbo engine of its VW counterpart.

The Hyundai i10 is, as expected, a champion when it comes to warranties, matching the five years offered by Toyota but topping the Skoda by two. The Korean car is also the most refined to drive, which in combination with the more spacious cabin and standard 5-door body makes it the winner in our eyes. Unfortunately, everybody is a winner in the eyes of Auto Trader.

But there's no denying the Toyota Aygo is charming, and we had a lot of fun in one a couple of years back, rolling down the fabric roof and playing quirky 3-cylinder sounds. This particular model also comes with a reversing camera, which let's face it is very handy for new drivers.
