The higher-ups at Volkswagen have not yet given us an Up! GTI or any other type of really small, fast car. Skoda is no better, but at least the Czech carmaker is giving its fans part of what they want with this special body kit.
Just like the bigger Fabia, the Citigo is now available with a Monte Carlo body kit, offering looks inspired by rally racing in combination with easy-to-own small engines.
Launched today in Britain, the Citigo Monte Carlo is available from £10,590 as a 3-door or £10,940 for a more practical 5-door. That might sound like a lot to pay for such a small car, but it's similar to what French rivals ask. In addition, you do get everything you need as standard.
The Citigo Monte Carlo is pretty much the same trim level as the Citigo Sport of last year. However, the upper grille has been blacked out and the side and rear stripes now have a checkered appearance.
16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a nice combination interior and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are just some of the things that give this budget banger curb appeal.
We've put off talking about the engines long enough. The bad news for this otherwise interesting car is that it's available with a single engine option, the basic three-cylinder 1.0-liter 60PS mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
A rally car that goes 0 to 62 in about 15 seconds doesn't quite work, but at least you'll be getting great gas mileage: 62.8mpg on the Combined Cycle and CO2 emissions of only 105g/km, according to Skoda at least.
