Skoda has kicked off production of their smallest car ever, the VW Up!-based Citigo. The model is being put together in Bratislava and it should be ready for an introduction to the local Czech market by the end of the year. Other European countries will follow in the early summer of 2012. At the time of its launch in the market, the Citigo will first be available as a three-door vehicle.
“The Citigo is a central component of our growth strategy,” says the Chairman of the Board of SKODA, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “With this automobile, we are starting our model offensive in Europe. It opens the important small car market for SKODA and perfectly applies our values in a city car: compact yet spacious, economical yet agile, attractive and equipped with many clever ideas. This car is ‘city clever’.”

It should be available in both three and five-door configurations. Most of the body panels are identical to those on the Volkswagen, but the front end bring the usual Skoda grille and badges. Other differences concern the new alloy wheels, the headlights and the pattern in the taillamps.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
