With 67,700 units delivered in one month and an increase of 12.1 percent over the previous year. there’s little surprise that Czech carmaker Skoda is reporting its best August sales in the company’s history.
In the period from January through August 2012, the automaker saw its deliveries grow 8.5 percent to 633,300 units, compared to the 583,600 sold last year in the same period.
“Skoda has further improved its position in the markets in August,” said Werner Eichhorn, Skoda board member for sales and marketing.
“We have outperformed the market in almost all sales regions, despite an environment that is becoming more and more difficult. Despite stronger headwinds from the market, we hope we can continue to grow in the future,” says Eichhorn.
The new Skoda Rapid will be making an important contribution in this respect. This new compact saloon will see its world debut at the Paris Auto Salon in late September, after which it will go on sale across Euro from October.
Skoda’s sales in Europe remained strong, increasing by 1.2 percent while the overall market slumped 83. percent.
“What we have shown in Western Europe is that you can sell cars even in cyclical downturns provided you have the right product. Clever, good cars at an attractive price is what we make, and these qualities are especially paying off now,” says Eichhorn.
But Skoda also performed well in Eastern Europe and even managed to grow in China (4.5 % to 19,700) and India (8.8% to 2,200 units.
