Skoda Adds Superb 1.6 TDI Engine to UK Lineup

The British division of Skoda recently announced it has introduced the 1.6 TDI CR 105 bhp engine to its Superb range, with pricing starting at GBP 17,480. Available in S and SE trim levels, the 1.6 TDI CR comes with a five speed manual gearbox, and offers improved driveability, fuel consumption and CO2 over the 1.9 TDI PD unit which it replaces.

Combined mpg has been improved by 6.9 mpg for the Hatch, and 5.6 mpg for the Estate while emissions have been reduced by 19g/km and 20g/km respectively.

Other diesel units in the range include the 2.0 TDI CR which produces 140 hp and the 2.0 TDI CR which produces 170 hp. An all-wheel-drive transmission is available for the 1.8 TFSI, the 2.0 TDI with 170 bhp and the 3.6 VR6 engines.

You can also opt for three petrol engines: the 1.4 TSI with 125 hp, the 1.8TSI with 160 hp and the 3.6 VR6 with 260 hp.

Skoda Superb received the Car of the Year 2009 award in no less than 8 countries in Europe. The car was named the Car of the Year 2009 in Czech Republic, gaining both the grand prize and the leading position for the Medium Class.

In addition, Skoda Superb gained the leading spot in seven other countries, as it follows: Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Bosnia & Herzegovina and the Ukraine.

As for the UK, the Superb has won Top Gear Magazine’s 'Luxury Car of the Year' and Auto Express’ best ‘Family Car’ and ‘Estate Car’ of the year awards.

Since it was officially launched, Skoda delivered more than 20,000 units of the second-generation Superb, with sales going fairly well in most markets in Europe.
