Six U.K. Stunt Riders Banned Thanks to Recovered GoPro Footage

YouTube is a great website, allowing users to find out about new things, learn stuff and take a laugh at the funniest clips in the world. But it also encourages some to strap a camera to themselves and do some of the stupidest things to get fame. Like these six riders that are now banned from operating vehicles after filming their dangerous stunts.

Matthew Langley (37), Malik Blackburn (31), Kevin Saunders (29), Jonathan Wartnaby (31), Axel Jones (25) and Matthew James (28) were riding together from Bedford to Hatfield, United Kingdom, back in April 2014. This sounds pretty normal, but Langley had two GoPro cameras mounted on his Yamaha R6 and was filming the other five doing some dangerous maneuvers.

Reaching speeds of up to 146 mph (235 km/h) was just for starters, as they soon decided to pop some wheelies on the highway shoulder. Malick was seen pulling a 135-meter (443 feet) long wheelie while standing on his Honda Fireblade seat.

Passing cars on the wrong side or on the hard shoulders were also part of the show and so was a burnout while leaving a gas station. This soon raised the local police attention and a few units were dispatched to assess the situation.

Aware of the situation, Langley stopped in a tunnel and ditched the two cameras on the side of the road, but the police managed to find them and used to prosecute the men.

The case ended recently, and all six men admitted dangerous riding and received punishments according to what they’ve done. Mathew Langley got banned for three years from driving or riding. Malik Blackburn got banned only two years while Axel Jones, Jonathan Warnaby, and Matthew James each got 18 months. Kevin Saunders took the least amount of punishment being banned for only 12 months.

However, the thing that amazes the most is the fact that three of these guys were over 30 and were still acting like complete fools out on the streets, endangering their and other people’s lives. If you want to prove your riding skills, there’s only one place to do so, and that’s at the race track.
