Six-Rotor Wankel Makes a Great Noise

The only major car manufacturer to have used the Wankel rotary engine is was Mazda. Sadly, now they’ve moved on to more efficient ways of powering automobiles and, at least for now, no more rotary-powered cars will be put on the road.
However, the fact that Mazda no longer makes Wankels hasn’t stopped the very passionate people over at the New Zealand-based Pulse Performance Race Engineering - they have made a six-rotor engine. Why is it such a big deal that it has six rotors? Well, Mazda’s Le Mans-winning prototype class car utilized a four rotor configuration and the six-rotor layout has hardly ever been used - or at all.

We hope that Mazda does find a use for the Wankel, but if they don’t, there will always be car nuts with an empty garage, a few spanners and a lot of passion who can nowadays make pretty much anything they desire - as long as they can afford it, that is!
