Peugeot has decided to enter 3 pairs of its latest green cars in the 2011 RAC Future Car Challenge taking place this weekend. In addition, they will be entering 17 historic cars in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, also scheduled for Sunday, November 6th.
Two of the six will be the all-electric iOns, which will be driven by Scott Penny, the recent winner of the RAC Green Grand Prix and the other by journalist Jonathan Humphrey of drive.co.uk. In addition, the Peugeot 508 saloons with e-HDi and the latest Stop & Start System have been entered, driven by former World F1 Champion Damon Hill and by journalist Hannah MacMurray from Green Car Design.
Last but not least, there’s the two LHD Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 cars that use the latest diesel-electric hybrid powertrain. One will be driven by Bosch representatives and the other by What Car? Magazine, who awarded the 3008 their Car of the Year in 2010, and ‘Best Alternative-fuel and SUV’ in the 2011 Green Awards.
“Today the motor industry faces a new challenge especially to find the next mass production new-energy power source for the 21st Century. The Royal Automobile Club of Pall Mall London, the proprietors of the world's longest running motoring event, the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, is keen that the Future Car Challenge provides a unique platform for today's motoring pioneers to prove and promote their new-energy vehicles for the future,” Peugeot says.
