Six Million German Fiestas on the Roads

With Ford's Fiesta model wreaking havoc in Europe, as it smashes record after record, the American manufacturer is celebrating the 6 millionth Fiesta to exit the Niehl Assembly Plant's gates since the start of production here in 1976.

The anniversary Fiesta is a three-door Vision Blue Sport edition, packing a 1.6l Ti -VCT engine (120 PS) and will go to a German customer. The achievement is even more important if we take into account the fact that it took Ford ten years to reach the first million units.

"The Fiesta's success speaks for itself. Its innovative design combined with state-of-the-art technology continues to be a great hit with customers," said Ken Macfarlane, vice president, manufacturing, Ford of Europe.

"To achieve six million units of production is a great milestone for Niehl, and one that everyone at the plant should be justly proud of achieving. This is not just a success for Ford, but also for Cologne, North Rhine Westphalia and Germany."

The Ford Niehl Assembly Plant in Cologne, Germany employs 4,300 people, who build around 1,885 Fiestas and Fusions every day. Last year, a total of 406,200 cars of where built here, 350,500 of which being Fiestas.

Since the debut of production here, seven generations of the Ford Fiesta have been built in Cologne. Undoubtedly, this last one is the most successful, with no less than 670,000 cars sold in Europe since its introduction.
