About one year ago, the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, was the event where several records fell, and a number of others nearly did the same. It was back then when a “one-of-a-kind custom 1977 Ford Bronco 4x4” snatched $220,000. Afterward, Ford launched the new Bronco, and everybody was feeling, at least for the foreseeable future, that was it for the old versions of the SUV.
Think again. Not only did the old Bronco market not shrink, but it seems to have come back with a vengeance, as more and more insanely expensive models keep popping up.

The one you see here is also from 1977. Unlike the Barrett-Jackson one, it is not a one-of-a-kind custom wrapped in Harley-Davidson Root Beer Brown, nor does it have a Coyote 5.0-liter crate engine linked to a 4-speed automatic transmission for a drivetrain.

It is also not part of an auction – it sells directly, and for a price that is sure to make someone's eyes pop out: $99,500. That should get you three brand new essential Broncos instead, or two Wildtraks, and you’ll still be left with some change.

True, there’s no comparing the allure of a vintage Bronco with the modernity of a 2021 SUV, and we’re pretty sure someone somewhere will decide this decades-old machine is the one they should get for their collection, as it's doubtful one would be able to re-sell the thing for more than this.

Keep in mind this here Bronco was sold as new for $5,620 (that would be $24,000 adjusted for inflation). It does have tons of the original hardware still on, down to the Candy Apple Red paint and the 302-ci engine (4.9-liter) good for 135 hp and 243 lb-ft (329 Nm) of torque.

The price set by the selling dealer is also above what valuation company Hagerty estimates a Concours-condition Bronco is worth. Not by much, but still, higher.
