Simoncelli to Ride for Aprilia at Imola

Aprilia confirmed the current 250cc World Champion Marco Simoncelli as part of its lineup at the Imola Superbike round this weekend. The Italian rider will compete alongside Max Biaggi on the RSV4 usually ridden by Shinya Nakano.

Unfortunately, the Japanese rider is still kept away from the track due to neck muscle problems that also prevented him to compete in race 2 in Germany.

Nakano was then taken to the Clinica Mobile where the physiotherapists carried out a relaxing massage and applied a bandage, but neither this nor the mesotherapy cured Nakano’s problem.

Simoncelli has been preparing for his Imola WSB debut with two days of testing at Mugello yesterday and today, where he lapped with a best time of 1 minute 53.55 seconds, completing 91 laps, worldsbk.com reported.

"I am very satisfied with this test. I was quite quick and together with the bike managed to improve a lot. We worked to find the right base setting for Imola, where it will be important to find a good set-up as quick as possible, which will make things much easier,” said Simoncelli, who is quite excited with the following race.

“I'd like to thank Aprilia for this great opportunity, I will be making my debut in a category and on a track that are completely unknown to me, the level of our rivals is very high and it won't be at all easy to obtain a good result,"
he added.

Aprilia will also debut the R version of their RSV4 this weekend at Imola, which is rumored to keep all of its predecessor main characteristics: a 1,000 cc, 180 HP, V4 engine, integrated Ride-by-Wire electronic management, twin injectors, racing-derived frame and cycle parts and an extremely compact size.
