Even though this is one more piece of sad news related to the untimely passing of road racer Simon Andrews, it is well worth to mention his final good deed, occurring even after he was no longer among the living. His family announces having his last wish carried out, donating his organs in case of a fatal crash.
Simon Andrews, 29, was involved in a horrible crash in the Metropole area of Ireland’s North West 200 race on May 17, while riding a bike for team Penz13.com BMW. After receiving medical care at the crash site, Simon was airlifted to the intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast. Even though showing some signs of improvement and being able to breathe by himself, the English rider succumbed to the massive head injuries he sustained. His parents Stuart and Dee, his girlfriend Lisa and best friend Breakers have been by his bedside until the final moment.

Andrews has always been involved in various charities and he expressed his wish that his organs be donated in case of a fatal crash during the race. Following his demise, the family consented for this, fulfilling his will of being able to help others even after his death.

No detailed info on how he came off the bike was provided but the footage at the scene of the crash we saw shows his bike sliding away along the road, followed shortly by what appears to be an unconscious Andrews. Some individuals claiming to have witnessed the initial crash say it was hard, but most likely not fatal. However, while sliding on the road head first at high speed, Simon Andrews impacted a concrete curb, becoming very seriously injured. The impact was so powerful that his whole body was lifted off the asphalt flying forward and coming to a stop dozens of meters away. The footage is very graphic and we cannot publish it for editorial reasons.

Once more, we thank Simon for all the excitement he brought to the sport and wish his family and friends all the strength for passing over this hard blow in their lives.
