Silver Arrows to Test Conway, Ericsson

After Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Renault, Ferrari and even soon-to-be-defunct BMW Sauber, Mercedes' newly formed Silver Arrows team now announced its drivers lineup for the upcoming rookie test at Jerez, between the 1st and 3rd of December.

According to a report from Autosport, it will be IndyCar driver Mike Conway and Japanese Formula 3 champion Marcus Ericsson to join the testing session with Ross Brawn's team. The rookie session was agreed upon by the FIA and the FOTA (Formula One Teams Association) in order to give an opportunity to rookie drivers to gain experience in F1 machineries.

All drivers who haven't competed in at least 3 Grands Prix in the series are eligible for the test.

Although never a race driver in Formula One, Conway is no stranger from the Great Circle. He used to test for Ross Brawn's team back when it was powered by Japanese manufacturer Honda, while also having the role of a reserve driver.

Following his years as a test driver in 2007 and 2008, Conway moved to the IndyCar Series last season, where he competed for a full-season with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. He ranked 17th overall in the drivers' standings and is yet to secure a racing seat for the upcoming year.

As far as Ericsson is concerned, the Swedish driver ended a phenomenal season in the Japanese F3 Championship, clinching the title at his very first appearance in the series. He also scored a pole position in this year's edition of the Macau F3 race, but failed to turn it into a podium performance.

Some other interesting facts about his career would be that he won the British Formula BMW Championship two years ago and won the Swedish Junior Racing Driver of The Year award in the same season.
