Silicon Valley is America's Hotspot for Electric Cars, Study Claims

Home to Apple, Google, and other tech companies but also Tesla Motors, Silicon Valley also has the most electric vehicles in the United States.

EVs are becoming more and more popular, there's no doubt about it, but there's still a big discrepancy between different areas in the US.

For example, California can be considered America's EV paradise, while in other states like Texas, for example, people are extremely skeptical when it comes to green cars.

One of the reasons for this unequal distribution of EVs across the US comes from the relaxed zero-emissions policies and generous incentives offered in some areas, California included.

But according to a study carried out by the Center for Sustainable Energy near San Diego cited by Ecomento, Silicon Valley turns out to have the highest number of electric cars per capita in the United States.

To put it more precisely, there are seven electric vehicles there for every 1,000 cars registered. There are a lot of factors to 'blame' for this situation, one of them being the average income in this area and its inhabitants' open-mindedness when it comes to new tech and alternative energy sources.

Next in line is California, which holds 30% of all electric cars in the US (from a total of 300,000 EVs roaming the nation's streets) thanks to areas like San Francisco or Los Angeles, where the percentage of electric car ownership is the highest in the state.

In any case, the number of EVs in the US should follow the upward trend for the following years, but it's more a matter of how fast will electric cars increase their numbers compared to ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) automobiles and how will carmakers and the government ease that expansion.
