Summer is coming and for those of us that ride longboards, a common struggle is fitting into whatever space it happens to be available at home. But maybe we have to face the issue no longer.
What we see in the cover photo and gallery is a trinket created by a company named BoardUp about five years ago. If you don’t know anything about this team, you should really give a click here to see what they're all about. Or just read this article as you’ll pick it up along the way.

This board is known straight up as the Classic. Why? Well because it represents the absolute essence of this company’s idea for urban mobility. Now, there’s also a video below to help you understand a bit about what’s going on here. Had a look? Leave your comments below to what you think about this whole trick.

Pretty simple and neat huh? If you don’t think so, then you honestly aren’t someone who rides their board anywhere they go. But for those of us that seem to have been born with boards in our blood, this little mechanism is absolutely perfect for our everyday lives. If you don’t think so, take the $189.99 (€155) price tag as another example of how exciting this board is.

The board itself isn’t too different from others on the market, except that it’s made of two separate halves. As you would expect, the 33-inch (84-cm) deck is composed of eight layers of Canadian Maple and one layer of fiberglass as to offer the necessary flexibility and strength to handle bottoming out without breaking. If you want to see the level of abuse this little sucker can take, I invite you again to watch the video below.

As for another important component, the trucks are just standard, there's no major name brand being supplied. But if you’ve got your favorite trucks still intact, just throw them onto the Classic and enjoy nearly the same ride.

The wheels share the same fate. We receive nothing special, just standard elastic PU high re-bounce wheels. No name brand or special gimmicks here. However, we can just switch them out with whatever we prefer. The only catch is having to use wheels smaller than 3.2 in (83 mm).

So far, nothing special. Same as anything else under $200 on the market. But then you see this board laying folded in a corner and realize that it’s like nothing you’ve seen before. You intuitively pick it up by that aluminum handle jutting out of the center and drop it on the floor next to you. As if it’s got a mind of its own, the board lays open as if inviting you for a ride.

And why not take a ride? From the video, it looks like the team put together one heck of a mechanism that doesn’t seem to affect your riding style. But how? Well, BoardUp created this in-house hinge system out of aluminum, and in order to not affect a rider’s movements on the board, the entire mechanism is hidden underneath. The principle behind the fold is the same as the one used by hinges on our doors, allowing for a complete 180-degree fold - well almost, the wheels seem to keep this from happening.

Nonetheless, this allows your usual board to be reduced to only half its size, making it perfect to either be carried in-hand, in a backpack or stored underneath a word desk. Personally, I'm all for this little mechanism. But you know what else I'm up for? Strapping an electric conversion kit to this to really make it stand out.
